The through-type shelving, also known as the drive-in shelving or the corridor-type shelving, is a type of dense storage shelving. Forklifts directly enter the storage aisles to retrieve goods, significantly saving the forklift aisle and improving the space utilization rate. Is the through rack first-in-first-out? Let's find out.

Generally speaking, the through-type shelving is placed against two or three walls, so it is usually designed as first-in-last-out. If it is not placed against the wall, it can be designed as first-in-first-out, but such a design requires three sides to be reserved for the forklift aisles, resulting in a reduction in the overall space utilization rate.

Therefore, the through-type shelving is mostly not designed as first-in-first-out. However, if there is a demand, it can be customized. If first-in-first-out is required, gravity-type shelving can be considered, which is also a type of dense storage shelving. It can store items statically or dynamically, and its efficiency is higher than that of the through-type shelving. The forklift only replenishes goods at the top of the shelf, and there is no need to enter the aisle. The pickers can complete the operation at the bottom. This mode of separating people and vehicles greatly reduces the risk of vehicle and personnel collisions in the warehouse.
